Germany - Part 3 - Fairy-tale & Baltic sea

Lüneburg & Insel Poel

Already taken away with Bremen we continued our trip. Our plan was to go to Luneburg and then check out Schwerin. So we set off, found the car park (almost empty) and took a stroll to the centre of the city.
Our teeny-tiny itinerary:
The first street that we saw was Auf dem Meere and it was truly amazing, no people as it was 11am, we took like 20 photos and videos there, such a picturesque street it was!

Then we continued to Das Schwangere Haus aka the Pregnant House. This was nice, nothing breathtaking as the house isn't due for another few months but you get the idea. Just a few steps from the Schwangere Haus is a little market square (Am Markt) with the Town hall where if you arrive on the right day, at the right time (we advise Sunday lunchtime) you can taste any German delicacy that you can imagine. There was a baker (established in 18-something) who sold amazingly delicious bread and cakes.

Can you see it? :)

Then you can continue towards Bei der Abtsmuhle which is undoubtedly the nicest part of the town. Small cute houses along the canal, restaurants where you can relax right "on" the canal. The old mill, bridge with love locks, no rush, no stress - is there anything better?

Where to next? Fancy a bird's view? Go to the Watertower aka Wasserturm and take the stairs! When we asked the staff member if we could take the stairs he had no problem with that he just needed to open it for us as "nobody takes the stairs up" :D He left the door open and I think few people followed our suit (oh, it felt so inspiring :D ).

On our way back to the car we passed another amazing bakery with a really nice lady who got fake insulted when we didn't buy coffee with our cakes as her coffee was (or so she said) the best! She obviously liked her job and was grateful for the customers that decided to leave their money there. There was a couple with a baby and they needed some hot water to warm the puree for their child - she helped them out without a word (and with a smile).
Useful tip: Telchac recommends rhubarb cake if you (by any chance) stop by there.
On our way back to the car we needed to address the elephant in the room - where to next? Schwerin (as planned) or Insel Poel (random idea)? Castle and little lakes or sea and the beach? Not sure at all and changing our mind every five minutes we finally landed on the second option. What was the decision-maker? That we could not find any private small boat excursions (only big 50 (guessing) people boats - a bit crowded for our taste). If you guys have been to Schwerin, please comment and let us know if we need to come back!

Just so you can imagine how indecisive we are - when we got in the car, our plan was to go to Insel Poel and then to Schwerin :D Obviously, when we arrived at Poel we needed to admit that since there's only 24 hours/day and we need to sleep :D we did not make it there and gave up the idea.
We spent the afternoon sitting on a beach and eating catch of the day in a nearby restaurant (amazing! and I don't exactly love fish). We had Scholle and Rotbarsch - both looking pretty angry in the pictures we googled :D but the uglier, the more delicious? Don't they say so?
Useful tip: If you have time, rent a bike there (it's really cheap!) and discover the island! :)
With our bellies full we went to return the rental - at least we had a bit of relaxing before the hustle and bustle of the city of Hamburg which I'll be writing about next week - CU there!
