Cote d'Azur - Part 2 - Bombastic mussels

Saint Raphaël

As Telchac warned you, a more detailed narrative about our Côte d'Azur holiday is here! Before we move on to the Côte d'Azur, I'll tell you about our airport experience. We landed in NCE, nothing extraordinary. After we got out of the plane, we were stopped basically almost in front of the door. They closed the door (people as if not getting the cue, were trying to get in despite that - really? why would you do that?) After a while of just standing there we heard a detonation (at that moment, everybody who did not push their way past the closed door had to be kinda happy to be behind the door). They left us there for another 5 - 10 minutes. After they opened the door we entered almost completely (except for the police) empty airport. There were no people behind the car hire counters, nobody in restaurants, just people who were just let in. Crossing the airport we saw a rucksack "left" there, completely destroyed, with parts of it across the perimeter (big words, no kidding :D). Those are facts, after that, we could only guess what happened - and this is what we thought - they found unattended luggage there, so they just destroyed it to have it all under control. That's why they did not bother taking the rucksack away because they knew it was "nothing special". We then tried searching for some news online, but there was nothing. We only found out that there was another bomb threat or something a day before that. So really, nothing new for them. Even then, we praised their level of professionalism, no panic, no mistakes, just simple old unattended luggage controlled detonation.
After everything returned to normal, we went to get "our" car. Telchac was hoping for an upgrade (maybe some cabrio?) but as this is cabrioland and everybody wants one, we got Opel Adam. It was our half-car Adam - we were always wondering where the other half is :D (btw perfect for parking, terrible for keeping your luggage unseen :D). So with our luggage in the back seats and our asses in the front seats we set off.
Useful tip: Ladies, if you're wearing some fine/delicate material dress or top, check if the seat belt isn't ruining it. Adam's seat belt did destroy my scuba skirt a bit.

Saint Raphaël is a small picturesque town. Many of those coastal towns have seemed the same, but not this one. I didn't know if it was for the big Ferris wheel or the fact that it was the first town we visited during our trip. After we parked the car in a public garage (easy to find, no problem with space as we had Adam :D) we went for a stroll in the marina. We looked at the people and yachts and we were trying to decide what to eat.

But first, we went for the Ferris wheel (definitely better than after we ate, just in case, you know :D). The view was perfect, the ride amazing, with the sun and the wind in my hair, oh #takemeback. When we finished we were screamed at by the girl selling the tickets, as obviously you were supposed to exit on the other side (not where you entered) which is bit hard to get as there were no signs (neither symbolic, nor in French and God forbid in English) and the girl kept on screaming in French - which really helps when French isn't your forte :D We just laughed and ran away :D (we simply did not know what she wanted, what would you do?!).
When deciding what to eat, we always try to avoid tourist traps and that's why TA is my good friend in all places abroad. We found one place there as well, but it was closed :D Then another - fully booked and finally we just chose the one that was in the marina, full of people (good sign) and cosy. We had mussels (marine style) which were definitely fresh and tasty (perfect with a beer). A very fine day it was, I must say.

With the mornings spent lounging and sunbathing and the afternoons exploring we knew we did not want this to end :D But not to be depressing, next time I'll tell you about Antibes and Monte-Carlo. CU there!
